As of June 2010, Palace ~ Love in Palace has been broadcasted and is popular not only in Korea, but in 24 nations worldwide including Japan. Especially in Japan, it has enlarged the Korean drama fan base by luring the younger generations who weren't interested in it before.

In Japan, the DVD series sold 160000 sets and the original manga series is passing the million sellers mark.
Palace ~ Love in Palace has the standing position as the beginning of the dramas such as the Korean version of Boys Over Flowers, Shining Legacy, You're Beautiful, and etc, which stars fresh young actors aimed to capture the young audiences.

Palace ~ Love in Palace has changed the status of the Korean dramas in Japan. After all, Japanese Monthly Industry Insider magazine and Monthly Video DVD Navigator awarded Palace ~ Love in Palace with the 'Outstanding TV Drama Award' of the 2007 'DVD of the Year', which is presented to the top contributor of in-store (shop) sells. There was fierce competition from great Japanese dramas such as High School Musical, Nodame Cantabile, and etc. at the time. Even so, it was easy to see the greatness of Palace ~ Love in Palace's popularity when you consider that it came in 2nd only to Hana Yori Dango 2 (Returns), starring Inoue Mao and F4 (Jun Matsumoto of Arashi , Oguri Shun , Matsuda Shota , Abe Tsuyoshi ).

An average high school girl becomes the princess! From past to present, princess is a subject that all women longs for. This drama is a gem of a royal love story that will make a normal college student, a normal OL, and a normal woman feel like a princess just for a moment. Just as Cindrella, Snow White, and Princess Kaguya are fairy tales loved by women of all generations, Palace ~ Love in Palace is a drama that will continue to be loved by all generations.

well...so long, Goong popularity is still continuing  That's the most success work of YEH, I think! and what more is that it's her first drama...
that would be ridiculous for rookie but no doubt for Yoon Eun Hye-ssi

thnx CDBloom. this is why i get so irritated when people, including YEH, talk as if Goong never happened. Goong was not perfect, but it was a grounbreaking drama at the time. the figures in japan proved it. for a lot of people around the world, Goong was their first look into korean culture and traditions. like the article said, it also paved the way for dramas to start trying to appeal to younger audience. the kissing scene in episode 23 created a shockwave at the time, but it also started the trend in kdramas of doing real kissing scenes and of female leads actually kissing back, where of course our YEH is the forerunner. well, eugene did kiss back in 2004's Save the Last Dance for Me, but it wasn't as widely watched as Goong was at that time. credit goes, of course, to the awesome chemistry between the two lovers, (ahem) i mean actors, YEH and JJH, that the scene became an epic in kdramas as far as kissing scenes go. on top of these, Goong brought fame, fortune, and international name recognition to YEH, who has been doing variety shows for a while before Goong. it catapulted both YEH's and JJH's status into Hallyu stars. so, YEH you might not have received an acting award for Goong, but it gave you a lot more. you got tons of product endorsements, photoshoots, CFs, modeling, but most of all, you have the luxury of picking and choosing what roles to play. YEH shi, i just wish you won't forget that. anyway, i love Goong so much that it kind of hurts when i read or hear people belittle Goong's achievements. btw, Japan is rebroadcasting Goong again this year. they said it's to expose the young people to hallyu culture. Goong is becoming a classic, and rightfully so!

@youandmeagain, I agree with what you said about Goong except your words about "YEH talk as if Goong never happened". Could you just elaborate more about it, about when or where exactly did she say about that ? On what interview ? Cause I've never heard or read about it. Yes, Goong is YEH first big drama project that catapulted her into stardom and yes now she's a big name/top star thanks to that. But as far as I know YEH never forget about it like you're assumed. So I'm still confuse of what are you trying to say here ?

I pretty much agree with almost everything you said except this part. I dont know what you mean about YEH talking as if Goong never happened. On the contrary, YEH has been very thankful for Goong and she has said it in more than one occasion. Even in an award speech she has been including PD Hwang of Goong thanking him for discovering her, believing in her and making her a star. There was also one incident which has not been shown on tv news, but reported on the newspaper, that when YEH won the best actress award for The Vineyard Man at the Grimme Awards, PD Hwang was there...YEH went up to him, made him stand up and told the audience to clap for him, telling them that he was a big part why she is where she is, again showing her eternal gratitude towards the Goong PD.

I dont know why, but reading certain parts of your posts makes YEH sound ungrateful, which she isn't. How much more does she need to say to prove that she is thankful for the big break?

YEH you might not have received an acting award for Goong, but it gave you a lot more. you got tons of product endorsements, photoshoots, CFs, modeling, but most of all, you have the luxury of picking and choosing what roles to play.

She has received an acting award for Goong. She got the Best New Actress Award for it.

The only thing I remember her saying about Goong that wasn't too flowery (but true), is that she received harsh critisisms for it because she was an ex-idol, she did get a lot of bashing for it not only because of the prejudice against singers turned actors, but also from the Goong Manhwa fanatics. But just because she said that, doesn't mean that she is trying to forget or that she is ungrateful about Goong. From what I remember, Joo Ji Hoon also said the same thing in a lot of his interviews, that he was also heavily criticized in Goong. They only spoke the truth.

Goong catapulted YEH into stardom and made the industry know her name as an actress, while Coffee Prince finally gave YEH the respect and recognition that she deserved as an actress and made her a top star. So both Goong and Coffee Prince are very dear to YEH's heart.

i know i was going to get pounced on when i said that. please remember, i love YEH, even when i thought that she felt that way about my all-time favorite kdrama. I've seen so many videos and read so many things in such a short period of time that I can't exactly give you guys the reference right now, without having to dig through all of them again. at the time, it made an impression on me - it saddened me. maybe something got lost in the translation, and if that was the case that could have created the misunderstanding. i'm not korean, so idk. base on what you are all telling me, YEH did not do that, maybe she was only relating what other people were saying and that got lost in the translation. made it seem like she was the one saying or thought it. i apologize to all of you and to YEH for that mistake. cheongmal bianhe. i want to thank you all for setting me straight. thank you guys sooo much. now i'm very happy knowing that YEH didn't feel that way. it's been bugging me, but now i'm free from that feeling. i just wish i can remember from where i got it so i can correct that mistake before more people see/read it and also misunderstand. will have to start digging through....

Yeh's warriors.....conflicts and arguement is good for further improvement but we're in one family, we need to unite and fight for Yeh ya.....not matter how, "Goong" is a masterpiece, the drama that has catapulted her into fame.....Hmmm.....Yeh is a great and brilliant lady, I believe she will appreciate.....she had contributed her best effort on this project, the overwhelming Yeh's effect can prove everything, so as a warrior, I think we just to support her truthfully, actually no right to say anything.....

Goong is my all time favorite kdrama. I have watched all of YEH's work. Goong is still the best drama that I can watch over and over and never get tired of. I still gush when I see that very emotional and hot kiss in episode 23. I never get tired of seeing it. It looks so real compared to other actors/actresses kissing. Actually all of YEH's kissing scenes are very realistic in all her dramas, but for me the chemistry between YEHssi and JJH is undeniable. Goong was groundbreaking for the Hallyu wave and it definitely brought fame and fortune to both YEH and JJH. I remember in some interview, both actors stated that they were quite nervous filming Goong because of the pressure to do well for the fans and for their debut as actors. YEH said in a Chinese entertainment interview that she will remember filming Goong as a scary thing because she was always shaking from being nervous. Poor YEH - too always feel pressured to do well. Maybe, that's why she only does one drama ever 2 years. The Korean fans are always critical of her. I on the other hand love her as an actress, but I especially recognize her as a very kind and passionate person to her fans and to the people she works for. I heard she is very loyal and hard working. YEH... Fighting!
